M E E T   G R A C E!

This month's New Moon Meditation will be guided by Grace McCrady! Learn about what kind of magic she will bring to this lunar celebration!

As a former gymnast and black belt in karate, Grace always felt the connection between a strong mind and body. When Grace found yoga in 2003, she immediately fell in love with the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of the practice. Yoga was an organic and intuitive transition from her previous forms of exercise, and also became a form of therapy. She loves to incorporate aspects of her gymnastics and karate background in her classes to create a dynamic and fun environment for her students. She believes there is a ninja yogi in all of us! Leaving her job in corporate mental health, Grace felt there was a way for her to connect with others on a more direct and tangible level. When one of her teachers brought up yoga teacher training to her after class, it was a no-brainer. She enrolled in Teacher Training at Corepower in 2014, and has never looked back. Grace was recently joined as the assistant manager at Corepower Northeast Minneapolis and is thrilled to be a part of the community that introduced her to the person she was always meant to be.

So what's the deal with the New Moon?

When the Moon is new, the Luminaries -- the  Sun and Moon -- are aligned in the same Zodiac sign.  That makes it a charged time with concentrated energies of that sign.

A New Moon is a symbolic point of attention, and a symbolic portal for new beginnings.

New Moons are a great time to set intentions for things you'd like to create, develop, cultivate, & manifest.

MEET ASHLEY!

This month's New Moon Meditation will be guided by Ashley Carlson! Learn about what kind of magic he will bring to this lunar celebration!

" I completed my 200 hour teacher training program through Yoga North International SomaYoga Institute in October of 2015. This training program was like the Yin to my Yang. SomaYoga is gorgeous blend of therapeutic yoga, somatics, and classic postures. I was able to start back at the beginning, slow the heck down, and listen to my body. To learn that it is all about balance in this life, no matter what we are looking at.   My hope for my students is to find your own self on the mat and to listen to what ever your mind, body, or spirit is telling you. You are smarter than you may even know. I believe that where ever we may find ourselves of this rollercoaster we call life, well that is exactly where we are supposed to be. "

CTG Yoga loves Naked Nina's like we love savasana. If you're unfamiliar, Naked Nina's is the free-spirited kid-sister of Nina's Cafe located in the heart of Cathedral Hill in Saint Paul. Aside from being long-yearned for sanctuary from the hustle of the city, this beautiful Nutirent Bar concots some of the most delicious elixirs you can fathom. Seriously. Whether you're a diehard juice + kombucha fan, or new to the idea of nourishing from the inside out, we are pretty certain after you try what these folks have to offer, you will feel the magic. We are SO excited to have them sharing with us complimentary Kombucha from Prohibition Kombucha. Stick around after the meditation to re-balance and re-charge with some sparkling yumminess!

This month's New Moon Meditation will be sponsored by the lovely souls over at Naked Nina's Nutrient Bar! Complimentary "Prohibition Kombucha" will be served post-meditation!

MEET TOM!

This month's New Moon Meditation will be guided by Tom Sugatt! Learn about what kind of magic he will bring to this lunar celebration!

Tom is a student of yoga first and a teacher of yoga second. Practicing and teaching yoga has given him the opportunity to live a purposeful life, focused on a happy and healthy body, mind, and spirit. The feeling he gets during and after practice provides him the sheer joy of being completely in the moment, connecting his body to the earth and his mind to the spirit. Tom believes that each individual is perfectly imperfect and he is humbled to be able to share in the collective progress of this process called yoga.

Tom teaches vinyasa at the Grand Ave CorePower Yoga location.

MEET GRETCHEN + MICHELLE!

This month's Full Moon Meditation will be guided by Gretchen Walch Nord and Michelle Henkel of Wild Hearts Yoga. Learn about what kind of magic they will bring to this lunar celebration!

We are Wild Hearts; wild enough to explore new places while giving you an enriching yogic experience. Wild means practicing Asana, stretching and strengthening our bodies, but wilder still to stretch and strengthen our minds. Wild in nature, wild in song, wild in sound and silence; Wild in our hearts.

Gretchen Walch Nord, BA in Art Education, MA in Art, co-founder Wild Hearts Yoga

Michelle has been teaching yoga since 2008. Her career began as a dancer in New York and over the last ten years evolved her study of movement and dance to include yoga, personal fitness and Zesa.  Movement isn’t restricted to just on a mat or in a studio – or gym, but a dance and flow from one moment to the next.  In mind, body and spirit. She has led yoga teacher trainings and guided many students to find their path in yoga.  Michelle believes she is as much a teacher as she is a student.  It is unique connections with others she seeks, a voice to the authentic soul and a dance with the wild heart.

Gretchen is a career educator with over 25 years of classroom experience. Gretchen is passionate about education and yoga. She has practiced yoga for over ten years and holds a yoga certification. She currently teaches at St. Therese School in Deephaven, MN. She is married and is the mother of two beautiful, grown daughters. She lives in Minnetrista with her husband Jay and two pugs. Gretchen enjoys all aspects of the practice of yoga; asana, meditation, chant, mindfulness, and breath work, just to name a few. She finds joy, peace, and a deep sense of self-awareness through the yogic path. Connecting to herself and others fills her up, and she cannot wait to share the practice.

Meet Abby!

This month's New Moon Meditation will be guided by Abigail Touminen. Learn about her journey and what kind of unique magic she will bring!

I was 13-years-old when I first encountered Yoga, though I didn’t start practicing regularly until I was in college - looking for a way to manage my mental health without the use of prescription medication. The experiences I was having on my yoga mat were deeply healing - they helped me feel grounded, safe, and beautiful - so I decided to participate in a teacher training so I could spread what I’d learn from my own practice and help others feel empowered. I completed a 230-hour training with Radiant Life Yoga, a Yin Yoga training with Michelle Pietrzak-Wegner, and an Energy Medicine Yoga training with Lauren Walker in Montana. I teach a slow, gentle, and relaxing practice that focuses on bringing awareness to the mind-body connection and cultivating self-compassion and curiosity for our felt experience.          I am fascinated by philosophy, and enjoy bringing the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Energy Work, Astrology, and Taoism into my classes. My hope for my students is that they can tune into the energetic nature of this human experience, and start using breath as a tool to cope, heal, and empower themselves. I strongly believe that this practice will help us all step into the fullness of our lives, enabling us to access our creative, intuitive, and healing abilities.

After we meditate, stick around to enjoy some calming Hibiscus Berry tea from the wonderful folks at Rishi Tea!

Rishi started in a windowless 400 square-foot space in Milwaukee’s Third Ward, where loose leaf teas were formulated and hand blended in micro-batches for sale to cafés throughout the Midwest. "Rishi" means “one who is a seer, sage, or seeker of truth” in Sanskrit. For us it means constantly striving to learn more about tea and strengthening our connection to tea and botanicals and the people who grow them. We strive to reveal the natural truth to our modern society, which has become so far removed from gardens and kitchens, and overly dependent on labs for synthetic and processed beverages. As Rishi, we want to share some natural and simple alternatives for people to live healthy and delicious lives. Discover new teas and join us on a wondrous botanical journey to leave No Leaf Unturned.

& R O S E    ICED TEA

a stunning and refreshing floral drink to cool off with in the intense heat of summer days

Author: Noha Serageldin

Serves: 8

INGREDIENTS

  • • 1 litre water
  • • ¼ cup Hibiscus Berry Tea  from Rishi Tea
  • • ⅓ cup honey
  • • 2 tsp. rosewater

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large kettle or heatproof glass bottle, Place the dried hibiscus flowers/teabags and the black tea teabags (if using). Boil the water and pour into the bottle. Let steep for 15 minutes then remove the black tea teabags (if using) and add the honey and taste to adjust sweetness. It should be intense and slightly sweeter than you like because it will be watered down when you serve it over ice or with soda water.
  2. Let it cool down completely, then add the rosewater. Cover and chill in the fridge until cold. Strain out the hibiscus flowers/petals/teabags, serve over lots of ice or diluted with a little soda water for some added fizz. Add some slices of lemon and/or dried rose petals for added prettiness.

This month's Lunar Gathering will be led by Emily Rose Duea, E-RYT500.

After stepping onto the mat in 2004, Emily Rose has been no stranger to the mental, physical, and spiritual healing powers of yoga. Emily Rose has shared her love of teaching yoga internationally in China, France, and Senegal. She is thrilled to be back in the Minnesota Yoga community and is ready to share intuitive and fun classes with her students.
When not trying on mala beads at the studio or with her nose in a book. Emily Rose loves going to coffee shops and doing theatre around the twin cities. She is so thankful to all of her teachers from Power Yoga (1 and 2), Yin Yoga (1 and 2), Yoga Sculpt, Chair Yoga, Kid's Yoga and Hot/Hot Power Fusion  Teacher Trainings and every student she meets who encourages her to keep learning.

Please note! The October New Moon Meditation is filled to capacity. If you are interested in being added to the waitlist, please RSVP and fill out the form (be sure to include your phone number so we can contact you if anything opens up)!

This month's New Moon is in Libra, a diplomatic air sign. Libra's influence brings feelings of grace and peace. It is an extremely hospitable and idealistic sign. Libran energies can have superficial tendencies, especially in regards to appearance.

A little more on the Libra New Moon...

When the moon transits (or passes through) Libra, a sense of order and most notably, balance is yearned for (Libra's symbol is the Scales...not surprisingly). Unlike Virgo (where the moon has been transiting for it's previous cycle), expressions of balance will occur through striking harmonious interactions with others and a heightened sense of aesthetic to our immediate surroundings (Virgo approaches balance from a more analytical perspective, using the fine print and little details to find a sense of harmony).

Problem solving occurs with diplomacy and we are more able to take a pragmatic stance towards conflict. Emotions are not as likely to erupt under a Libra Moon, since during this time, peace and harmony are what we crave most. Pragmatism can be a great tool that becomes more readily available to us, however, avoidance due to being able to see both sides of a situation is this transit's biggest downfall, leaving us with un-addressed issues that need tending to. Decision making does not come easily, and confrontation is likely to be avoided at all costs--we are far more likely to save face for the sake of others' approval than to speak our mind and risk upsetting or loosing someone's faith in us.

After we meditate, stick around to enjoy some calming Turmeric-Ginger tea from the wonderful folks at Rishi Tea:
